The best time to list on eBay when you list after work

6 min read

For an auction, the best time to list is the time you want it to end, because eBay ends an auction at the same clock time it started. For Buy It Now, eBay's help pages name no best hour: a Good 'Til Canceled listing stays live and renews every month until it sells.

What does eBay document about listing times?

As of September 2026, eBay's help pages cover how long listings run and when they end, not when buyers shop. Auction-style listings run 1, 3, 5, 7 or 10 days and end at the same time of day they started. Fixed-price listings are Good 'Til Canceled and renew every month. You can schedule a start time up to three weeks ahead, free. The pages name no best day or hour.

When should an eBay auction end?

An eBay auction should end when your buyers are home and browsing, and the usual seller answer is Sunday evening, US time. That's seller experience, not eBay data. Even Voolist, a listing-tool blog, labels its timing table as community patterns rather than official eBay figures. What eBay does document is the mechanics: start the auction at the hour you want it to end.

How to get a Sunday-evening end without paying for it

Pick the duration first, then the start. A 7-day auction started at 8:30 p.m. Eastern on a Sunday ends at 8:30 p.m. Eastern the next Sunday. In a week when the clocks change, eBay still gives the full duration, so the end moves by an hour. A 3-day auction started on Thursday evening also ends on Sunday evening, but eBay charges a $1.00 upgrade for 1- and 3-day durations. A 7-day auction started, or scheduled, for Sunday evening gets there without that fee.

What time is it for buyers when you list at night?

When you list at night, your buyers' clock is the one to watch, and US buyers span four main time zones. 9 p.m. Eastern is 6 p.m. Pacific. 9 p.m. Pacific is midnight Eastern. So a West Coast seller who starts auctions at the end of the evening ends them after most East Coast buyers have gone to bed. eBay.com shows times in Pacific, so convert before you schedule.

Most of Arizona stays on Mountain Standard Time all year (the Navajo Nation is the exception, per NIST), so from March to November it lines up with Pacific time, not Mountain.

How do you schedule an eBay listing from an evening block?

You schedule an eBay listing in the Pricing section of the listing form, and eBay lets you set any start day and time up to three weeks ahead. Scheduling is free for standard listings; the Classified Ad format is the one exception. So the night you write listings and the hour they go live don't have to be the same, which suits two fixed listing evenings a week.

  1. Open the Pricing sectionIn the quick listing tool, go to Pricing. If you don't see scheduling, select More options first.
  2. Turn on schedulingSelect Schedule your listing's start time. In the advanced listing tool, set Schedule your listing to on.
  3. Set the start date and timePick the day and time it should start. For an auction, that's also the time it ends, whole days later. eBay shows times in Pacific.
  4. Check your scheduled itemsScheduled listings sit under scheduled items in My eBay, where you can reschedule or delete them.

Does the time you post matter for Buy It Now?

The hour you post a Buy It Now listing matters less than it does for an auction, because a fixed-price listing doesn't end at a set hour. It's Good 'Til Canceled: it stays live and renews every month on the same day until it sells or you end it. Some tool blogs say a new listing gets a few hours of extra search placement. eBay's pages on listing times and fees don't mention it.

What you do control: how many listings are live, the price against sold listings, the photos and the item specifics. Those work at 3 a.m. the same as at 8 p.m. If you want to test timing anyway, change one thing at a time and give it weeks, not days.

What matters more than the hour you list?

How many listings you get live each week matters more than the hour you post them, and for a day-job seller that number is set by the evening. By FlowLister's own count (flowlister.com/list-ebay-items-fast/, read September 23, 2026), an experienced seller takes 4 to 7 minutes to type one listing by hand, before any price research. That makes an hour of typing 8 to 15 listings.

That ceiling holds whatever the clock says, and an evening's listing count works it through minute by minute. The hourly calculator shows what the evening pays.

What time of day is best to list on eBay?
eBay's help pages don't name a best time of day. Seller advice usually names Sunday and weekday evenings, US time, for auctions to end. For an auction, the start time is the end time, so pick it on purpose. For Buy It Now, post on your listing night; a Good 'Til Canceled listing renews monthly until it sells.
What day should an eBay auction end?
Seller advice usually says Sunday evening, US time. That comes from seller experience, not eBay data. To end on a Sunday evening without the $1.00 short-duration fee, start or schedule a 7-day auction for Sunday evening.
Does eBay charge to schedule a listing?
Not for most listings. eBay's Selling fees page lists scheduling as free, except the Classified Ad format, where scheduling costs $0.10. The 1- or 3-day auction duration is a separate $1.00 upgrade.
How far ahead can you schedule an eBay listing?
Up to three weeks. eBay's Listing durations and timings page says you can schedule a listing to start on a day and time you choose, up to 3 weeks in advance, and reschedule or delete it from your scheduled items in My eBay.
What time zone does eBay use for listing times?
eBay.com shows listing times in Pacific time. A listing scheduled for 6 p.m. Pacific goes live at 9 p.m. Eastern. Convert before you schedule, especially for auctions, where the start time is also the end time.

Disclosure Evening Inventory comes from the people who build FlowLister, so read it knowing that. FlowLister is aimed at the part of the evening this site keeps telling you to protect: from your item photos it fills in the title, category and item specifics, sets a price from sold listings and adds shipping, then you publish to eBay in one click. It's AI and it gets things wrong. Everything here works without it.
